The ocean is a dark and cruel mistress. She takes and she gives which is why there are hundreds of years worth of sea lore involving things like the Kraken, banshee mermaids, and giant killer whales. While science knows many things about her briny depths, its estimated that as much as 95% of the ocean is unexplored, which leaves much room for the imagination. When "monsters" like blobsters (which is a great name for unidentified marine life btw) wash ashore, it is our first gut reaction to be scared and jump to conclusions, conclusions like there is a giant, man eating monster in our midst that has managed to avert us all of this time, when in reality its probably just a whale. Nonetheless it is fun to speculate about these blobby masses that wash ashore. Its also fun to think about the process of decomposition in combination with the oceans fluctuating tides and environment, and what exactly happened to have made these animals into unrecognizable thingamabobbers. No? Just me? ok.

Also this is an artist rendition of the three hour epic battle between the blobster "Trunko" and two whales.
